I was a band kid. I went to yearbook camp. I’ve worked in a library and now I work in public radio. Icing my knee is not a sentence I thought I’d be using much at this point in my life. Unless of course I took a spill or something. On the ice on the way to work.
All that has changed. I am a roller derby girl. I fall. I shove. I skate my ass off.

There’s always been a mystique to rollerskating for me. It started when I was 4 and my sister worked at a roller rink. While she worked I skated around with her long haired boyfriend. It was about as cool as I ever felt.
